23rd July - Eastwell

On our regular walks to Eastwell Church we have seen 2 adult Spotted Flycatchers – increasingly hard to find these days..

 Spotted Flycatcher

We have not seen any young birds – yet.

Dungeness 19th July

The White-tailed Lapwing is still present but decided to stay sat on the shingle.  We saw a Purple Heron flying to and from the nest site.

We saw a small group of Tree Sparrows at the reserve entrance

and a Corn Bunting sang from the wires nearby.   A Black-tailed Skimmer basked on the reeds at Dengemarsh.

Butterflies etc.

Hamstreet Woods and King’s Wood and good for butterflies at this time of year.  We saw White Admiral at both sites and Silver-washed Fritillary at Hamstreet, although both did not want to pose for the camera.

Here is a selection.

White-tailed Lapwing

A White-tailed Lapwing arrived at Dungeness on 11th July via Lancashire, Essex and Gloucestershire.  It was still present this morning when I went to see it.

This is a first for Kent (and me!)

Rather too far away for photography but here is a record shot.
