Bhutan Day 9
Today we finally catch up with perhaps the star species of the trip Beautiful Nuthatch. We get good views of 2 creeping around on trees quite close to.
Where are my photos …
There aren’t any. Digiscoping a fast moving nuthatch which is going in and out behind leaves is beyond me. Suffice to say that they live up to their name - quite stunning.
I do get some good close ups of a male Rufous-necked Hornbill
And we see how the local House Martins manage without any houses!
Some of the local children look on as we eat our lunch. There are some very poor people here and I notice our crew occasionally giving hand-outs to the local children. You see some of the migrant workers building roads and living in no more than a tarpaulin held up by wooden poles - that is what I mean by poor.
We encounter the Black Giant squirrel. Always difficult to judge size but I’d say at least twice the length of a grey. If you had one on the garden feeders it would make a right mess of your nuts.
We stop for a while in Trongsa for shopping
and a few more stops along the road going east - the scenery is hardly ever less than stunning.
before making a stop overnight in Bumthang.
